Work stress as the name implies is the stress caused by work as the result of an increased need to perform at work, reduced pay, working longer hours, and an uncertainty of their future at work, workers are feeling more stressed than ever before.
Work related stress symptoms range from burnout, breakdowns, increased blood pressure, issues completing work such as procrastination and fatigue, and anger issues.
The anxiety caused from work related stress can lead to interaction issues, such workplace bullying.
Workers are looking for ways of coping with stress for these reasons.
Today’s workplace can be extremely stressful.
- One in five workers view their jobs as their biggest stressor, with 29% feeling quite a bit of stress or extremely stressed at work.
- Job stress is also seen as a higher contributor to health problems – more than family or financial problems.
- One in seven came close to hitting another worker do to stress on the job, while one in ten were were worried that work stress could make them actually violent.
- When it came to assault, 9% knew of an assault or actual violent act in the workplace and 18% had been threatened.
All of this shows how stressful the workplace can be.
